Doctor Brockmeyer came in around 9 thursday morning to discuss what would happen during surgery in just an hour. He showed us a bunch of pictures, told us the terrifying risks, and asked if we had questions. He also warned us that surgery would take 5 hours. FIVE LONG Hours. Luckily they called a few times to update us. When the nurse called to update us, one of the times, she said the tumor was lodged in there more than they expected. The tumor was also so so close to the brain stem. And later we found out that they cut out some of the cerebellum because the tumor was so attached. We finally got the call saying they were closing up and to expect the doctor in 15 minutes.
Well he came all right. He plopped down, exhausted, and gave a brief overview of the surgery. He asked if we had questions. Of course we did! But his answer was the same for EVERY freakin' one. "One day at a time." Apparently he doesn't like to speculate.
They took Keni back to the PICU. We changed rooms but were still in a shared room. Although it was a shared room it actually wasn't that bad. The people by us were really sweet and nice and their little boy was fairly quiet.
It was ultra sad to see Keni after surgery. She had been intubated along with an IV in her foot, hand, wrist AND neck along with an EVD- a drain. Oh and a catheter too. It was hard to know how much pain she was in or what she needed since the tube was still in her throat. They tied her hands to the bed to make sure she wouldn't pull the all the tubes/cords. She did pretty good but man it's hard when she is just trying to itch her nose or something simple like that.
That night she couldn't really get comfortable. She would try and turn but couldn't. She was super fidgety. The worst was when her face would get all grimaced and tears would run down her face! Talk about heart breaker!!

Oh my gosh, reading that story I'm taken back to the time I had to wait for doctor's call (when it did turn out to be something serious) for Luke and they said we needed to go to PCMC the next morning. Totally the worst night ever, and I couldn't stop crying.
I can't imagine the devastation you must have felt this past week. Waiting 5 hours???? Holy way too long for a worried mama and dad. I hope all goes well with recovery!!!!
And I'm SO GLAD you figured out what it was. Sometimes the worst part is wondering and knowing your kid is getting sicker and sicker and you have no idea what to do. But now you KNOW what it was and it can be fixed. What a blessing in that sense.
So glad that they figured it out and that she can start healing now. You and Joe are amazing. Keni is in good hands. Lots of prayers coming your way!
Wow. What an ordeal! Here's hoping you've seen the worst of it and everything gets better from here!
Kelsey, we are so sorry! Our hearts go out to you and little keni. You guys will be in our prayers!! I hope it gets better from here.
