St. George was just what we needed. And lucky for us Joe had his first Half Ironman there. It was perfect weather. Not too hot and not too cold. Honestly, we just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. We stayed at a condo with the Mason's and my parents and Dillan got a hotel. The condos had a couple of pools so naturally that's what the kids wanted to do most of the time. There wasn't any complaining from me about that idea! We did manage to get ice cream everyday. Nielsen's Custard was just calling my dad's name.
Race day was exciting. Joe and Mark had to be at the swimming at 4! Thankfully my dad and Dillan volunteered to take them. Then they came back, brought my mom over to the condo to watch the kids, and chauffeured me and Lynise to watch the guys start. Mark started at 7 and Joe started at 7:45. It was really fun to watch the transition. Lots of racers not paying attention to their surroundings and would run in to the bike in front of them. (Nothing serious.) There was one guy that crashed in to three, THREE! people before he got on his bike and out of the transition area. It was pretty dang comical. We almost missed Mark. Luckily he saw us and rode right passed us. We cheered him on to his back side. :) Then Joe came and it was fun to see him. Joe said it was nice to have a stripper as he got out of the water... A stripper is a person that helps get the wetsuit off the racer.
Look at all those bikes! Think about all that money... Each bike is at least $2,000. But most of them are probably at least $5,000.
Mark and Joe after the race. Joe felt awesome about his race. He did better than expected. Mark also got a PR and was obviously super stoked about that.
This couple cracked us up. The dude in a 'bikini' outfit and his wife in a 'manly man' outfit.
